A Letter from the Outgoing President

Hello All!

Please join us for a reception (herbal finger foods, herbal cakes and desserts) as we install and welcome our new officers for the 2015-16 year Tuesday, June 16, 6PM at the Loeb Center (301 Columbus Street, Montgomery 36104). New Officers will be Sherrie Hamill – President, Barbara Hightower – Vice President, Jean Szabo – Recording Secretary, Maxine Taylor – Treasurer and Marsha Allison – Corresponding Secretary.

Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this a year of accomplishments: scarecrows, beautiful handmade Christmas decorations, a successful Herb Day, interesting programs, fabulous functioning website, the nitty-gritty of handbooks, inspirational readings that helped us over some humps, garden work camaraderie and many occasions of fun, fellowship and of course always good food!

Come celebrate and bring your energy, ideas and support for our new leadership as we get off to a busy and fun new year for the Old Alabama Town Herb Society.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Gomillion

June 16 Meeting Agenda

Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 16, 6PM at the Loeb Center (301 Columbus Street, Montgomery). Please join us for a reception (herbal finger foods, herbal cakes and desserts) as we install and welcome our new officers for the 2015-16 year. Come celebrate and bring your energy, ideas and support for our new leadership as we get off to a busy and fun new year for the Old Alabama Town Herb Society.

Memorial Day at the Governor’s Mansion

On Monday 25 May 2015, several (OATHS) Old Alabama Town Herb Society members worked in the Governor’s Mansion Herb Garden. Barbara Hightower, Kayren Pittman, Jane McCarthy, Christine Robinson, and Amanda Borden worked from 8-11AM weeding the entire herb garden. It was the Memorial Day holiday, and 2 very generous souls (Kayren and Christine) came to work in the garden on their day off. Amanda joined us as a CAMGA (Central Alabama Master Gardener Association) volunteer. The garden was incredibly weedy…certainly a result of the generous rains and the renewal pruning of the holly tree and the resulting full sun exposure. We planted 3 ‘Sun Gold’ tomato plants (Amanda’s donation), and watered them in…which guaranteed PM showers. The new volunteers got a tour of the mansion grounds and a chance to think about additions to the Herb Garden.

Many thanks gardeners![portfolio_slideshow id=2047]

Herb Day Art

Amazing art work by students from TSMorris Elementary, Maxwell Elementary and Middle School, and Baldwin Arts and Academics Magnet School was on display in the Grange Hall on Herb Day. The subject? Herbs, of course! Click on an image to see it in full size and start slideshow.[portfolio_slideshow id=1938]
